The unique 27-Hole Course design at South Essex Golf Club provides 3 separate loops of 9 Holes. Spaciously laid-out, and designed with nature in mind, The Heron, Hawk and Vixen provide a variety of interesting course combinations. Blending into the gently rolling landscape, each hole is unique and offers a challenge to every level of Golfer.
Our team of greenkeepers work hard on keeping the course in top condition as well as working towards keeping the environment as environmentally friendly as possible.
The Heron is our most challenging 9 holes at 3450 yards long. The layout is quite demanding with two par 5s at 573 yards including the the opening hole.
The 3rd on this loop poses a challenge to even the most accomplished of Golfers. Measuring 462 Yards from the competition tee, only attack the green in 2 if you are feeling brave! A good drive will take you up the gently undulating fairway, leaving a view to the green which is protected by a large oak tree to the left and a ditch across its front with a two-tier green so make sure you have the right club in hand!
The 6th hole is a par 4 measuring 381 yards from the back tees. With a stroke index of 9 this hole looks easier than it plays. From the tee it is a blind 1st shot, the brave would take a driver, with a fairway wood/long iron better for the more faint hearted. If you are slightly left then it's blind into the green from behind the tree, fade the ball out right and have all the green in your sight.
The 8th is a favourite with many visitors to the course. A testing Par 3, needing a long iron or wood from its elevated tee and there is often a stiff breeze making the Green seem even further away! Heron boasts the most spectacular views of the wonderful Essex countryside and on a clear day it’s possible to see across the city of London.
Suitable for all abilities, Hawk is 3305 yards long. The most memorable part of The Hawk is the home stretch of holes 7, 8 and 9.
The Par 4 7th is one of the toughest throughout the 27 Holes. At 421 Yards, a slightly elevated Tee provides the view to a fairway sloping steeply from left to right. Any drive taking you to the right-hand side will leave a blind approach shot to a well-protected green.
A true three shot Par 5 completes the home stretch, this time dogleg from right to left with the fairway sloping towards a ditch running along the far side of the fairway. Your 2nd and 3rd shots take you towards the Green in view of the welcoming clubhouse and surrounding water features.
Combine The Hawk and Heron for a truly demanding 6755 yard course.
Shorter in length The Vixen is great for beginners but still provides a fantastic challenge for all standards of golfer.
The 4th hole (road hole) is the hole you will cross as you drive into the course providing a tricky tee shot with a pitch into a well protected green.
The 6th is a long par 3 measuring 238 yards from the white tees, on some days a driver for the best of players. The 7th is a short par 4. But the carefully positioned water hazard across the far end of the fairway leaves you plenty to think about from the tee. Lay up and leave yourself a mid iron into the Green, or go for it with the Driver!
A 565-Yard Par 5 completes the course, with a good drive leading to a fantastic view of a gently sloping fairway all the way down towards the Green. The more adventurous Golfer will see an opportunity of making the Green in two, but with a narrow target, accuracy is again the key.
Whichever loop you play here at South Essex you're sure to be challenged by a variety of holes designed for both competitiveness and enjoyment.
